Darin Griesey Named Executive Director Brookside Community Youth Program; Founding Director Bob McKinney Retires

Indianapolis, Indiana, October 28, 2008 – The Board of Directors of the Brookside Community Youth Program, Inc. (BCYP) has selected Darin Griesey to fill the position of Executive Director being vacated by the retirement of Bob McKinney, the program’s founder. For 10 years, Griesey developed, administered, and evaluated local community partnership initiatives throughout central Indiana. During this period, Griesey directed operations for the United North West Area Incorporated (UNWA), a 501c3 community based organization founded in 1971 on the mission of brokering the delivery of human services to central Indianapolis populations. As director of UNWA, Griesey advocated for increased youth educational empowerment partnerships in community renewal, including the development, implementation, and assessment of numerous behavior modification and life enrichment programs. Griesey brings a wide range of professional skills that will be a valuable asset to BCYP in achieving its current and future organization outreach strategies. BCYP primarily serves an area bounded by Rural Street on the west, Sherman Drive on the east, 21st Street on the north and Michigan Street on the south.

After 18 years of tireless service, Bob McKinney is retiring from his position as Executive Director of the BCYP. McKinney and his wife, Carolyn, founded BCYP in 1990 after retiring from a long career as an educator and school administrator to create a safe haven for the at-risk children in this near-eastside community. Over these years, the program has touched the lives of thousands of children and provided them a second home of love, acceptance and encouragement. Twenty-eight have gone on to college and more fulfilled lives. The McKinneys have created ripples of change in the Brookside community that will be impacting lives for generations to come.

The Brookside Community Youth Program, Inc., is a 501(c)(3), faith-based organization that provides educational, recreational, spiritual, social and cultural activities for children five days a week in one of the highest “at risk” areas of Indianapolis.
