More Than Safety
Although sometimes, it seems enough just to offer a safe place for the area’s children and youth to spend a few hours after school before they have to return to their homes and the daily struggles they face, the Program’s goal is to promote high moral values in the lives of our area’s children and youth, with an emphasis on forming friendships and providing positive role models to stop the negative cycle and circumstances of life in this neighborhood, such as violence, crime and poverty.
We encourage them to stay in school and stay away from tobacco, alcohol, drugs, crime and gang activity. We urge them to improve their minds, bodies and self-esteem. We show them that there are people who care about them and that they do have alternatives available to them. In fact, some of the staff grew up in the program and have a special ability to connect with the children. They know the challenges of life in this neighborhood and are well equipped to mentor the younger participants.
